VP Commercial, Americas

LOCATION: SAN FRANCISCO

We are looking for an experienced executive to join our San Francisco office based team as Vice President, Americas, with primary responsibility for commercial leasing strategy and activity in the region.

The VP Commercial, Americas will have primary responsibility for Vmo’s America’s commercial leasing strategy and activity. The VP Commercial, Americas is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of relationships with airline customers, the sourcing of business with such customers, and the commercial terms on which the business is conducted. The VP Commercial, Americas commercial responsibility continues throughout the life of each deal, from inception of commercial negotiations to return of the aircraft. The VP Commercial, Americas is a leader that guides other client-facing departments in the performance of their roles. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the ideal candidate will contribute to Vmo’s short- and long-term goals and objectives in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop and execute business and marketing strategies to maximize profitability and other corporate objectives 
  • Establish and foster airline customer relationships to provide insight into the direction of their organization, work in shaping requirements, assess customer satisfaction, identify and qualify potential new business opportunities, and understand their budget and political environment 
  • Engage in continuous relationship development to promote Vmo through the placement and financing of aircraft  
  • Provide strategic direction on acquisition opportunities and negotiate at the highest management level within the applicable airline 
  • Overall responsibility for airline-based origination (sale and leasebacks/acquisitions) in the region  
  • Analyze buy side opportunities to ensure that any acquisitions enhance Vmo’s overall portfolio from a return, concentration, and enterprise value perspective  
  • Prepare letters of intent, manage the internal investment process and lead the deal team during negotiations through conclusion of the transaction 
  • Ensure Vmo’s activities are in compliance with company policies and legal regulations 
  • Prepare and present acquisition, placement and remarketing opportunities (as applicable) to the Executive Committee and the Vmo board 
  • Lead the team responsible for the delivery and return of aircraft 
  • Responsible for ongoing lease and airline management until return of the aircraft 

Education, Experience, and Personal Attributes  

  • Bachelor’s degree required with an advanced degree preferred 
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in leasing, aircraft sales or banking with demonstrated success and superior customer management abilities required  
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to formulate strategy, obtain company buy-in and follow-through is critical 
  • Established, strong working relationships with airlines and vendors in the region strongly preferred 
  • An understanding of the technical elements of aircraft, and the impact on aircraft financing 
  • Awareness of issues inherent in complex, cross-border leasing transactions 
  • The VP Americas is expected to function as a partner to the CCO and the wider leadership team, positively contributing to, and evaluating ideas and initiatives designed to advance the company’s agenda 
  • A proven record of innovation and creativity to conceive and deliver value-added and customer-focused processes and solutions 
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly and extensively 
  • Proficiency in Spanish preferred 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to work as a member of cross functional team
